Managers and supervisors are the key people of any organization and are the most important factors for the success of the organizations. In most of the organizations, it is the managers that shape the organization culture, manages the day-to-day priorities, and is the key figure n various decisions relating to the work and the employees.

Some of the important management skills that managers should have are:

Planning: This is the first step and this activity refers to the setting of the goal and objectives of the business. Management fixes the goals and communicates them to the people. A proper goal setting is essential for the right direction of the business. People can work better only if the goal is clear to them and they know what they are trying to achieve. This is generally seen in the organizations in the form of mission and vision statements and involves realistic targets.

Staffing: After planning, comes the function of staffing. Staffing is essential after planning and it means recruitment of right people to carry out the job defined. Staffing involves a proper procedure and choosing the right people is very essential for the success of the job
Organizing: Once the goal has has been set and the people are acquired to do the job, comes the important task of organizing. Organization is necessary as it determines the job of everyone and is one of the most basic qualities of the manager. Organizing is very essential so that there is no duplication of work, no confusion regarding work and no loss in man-hours. Organizing is also important for the division of labor and delegation of authority and departmentalization.

Controlling: A manager should be able to implement controlling measures in his organization. Controlling compares the real performance with expected performance. The deviations in production and other work can be found out by implementing proper controlling measures. A good manager should be able to understand the differences in actual production with expected production. He should be able to find out measures to motivate his employees so that they achieve the desired results.

Directing: This is the last step in the production process, which the manager needs to carry out. After the results have come out the manager should be able to take proper measures and implement various systems that boost production and try to take out maximum results from his employees in a positive manner. The manager’s time management skills also are measured in this step.
